This week on Mondays with the Mayor, Mayor Beth Sweeny sat down with Bob Samuels to discuss the power of volunteerism and community partnerships in keeping St. Augustine Beach beautiful.
Bob shared how volunteers work alongside our Public Works Department to maintain several parkettes and garden areas throughout the city. Through what they call “sociable gardening,” volunteers spend time weeding, planting, raking, and caring for these public spaces while building friendships and community spirit.
Their efforts have expanded from the original parkette to additional locations, including the 10th Street Parkette and the Lakeside Park Sculpture Garden. These dedicated volunteers help ensure our parks and green spaces remain welcoming and beautiful for residents and visitors alike.
A special thank you to Bob, the volunteers, and our Public Works team for their commitment to making St. Augustine Beach a great place to live. If your organization is interested in adopting a parkette, please contact City Hall—we would love to hear from you!
