City Waste Collection Services
The City of St. Augustine Beach provides waste collection services to all
addresses
located within the City Limits. Residences and Businesses may enjoy pickup
of
household (regular garbage) wastes twice weekly, with a separate collection
for yard
wastes, and special wastes.
If you have any questions that you are unable to
find the answer to below, you may call the City Manager's Office at (904)
471-2122 or the Public Works Department at (904) 471-1119.
| •White Goods (Appliances, Washers, Dryers, Ovens, Refrigerators, etc..) |
| •Metal Items (Grills, Weight Sets, Ladders, etc...) |
| •Large Furniture (Couches, Bedroom Sets, Beds, Large Aquariums, etc...) |
| •Bulk Items (If it's really big, it's probably a special pickup item) |
| •Construction Debris (Concrete, Dry Wall, Wood, P/T Wood) |
| •Any Hazardous Materials (Paint, Oil, Insecticides, Pool Chemicals) |
| •This will differ, depending on
what area of the city you live in. The city is divided into two
areas for the purpose of waste collection, A Street and South
excluding Sea Grove, and 1st Street and North with Sea Grove.
The South end is collected every Monday and Thursday; while the
North end is collected every Tuesday and Friday. Special Pickups
occur for the entire city on Wednesday.

if you are still unclear on your pickup day. |
| Special and yard waste collection is
currently Wednesday for the entire city. Individuals within the
City who wish to have yard/special wastes removed from their
property will need to call the City Manager's Office no later
than 4:00pm on Tuesday, the week of expected collection to be
added to the pickup list. |
| All of these things
represent hazards and may NOT be picked up with regular garbage. |
| •Oil must be recycled and may be taken to multiple
locations free of charge, including auto parts stores, and
Public Works (Monday - Friday, 10am-2pm) if you call first 471-1119 - more info here. |
| •Paint although not as much of an environmental hazard
(as it usually leaks onto the road and dries) is a nuisance and
is still an environmental hazard. Many people don't like their
street, driveway or pavers painted as their garbage is
collected. |
| •Muriatic acid is a particularly hazardous chemical
that we do not like to see in the garbage. Containers (for use
in pools) may be taken back to the store where they were
purchased (Ace within our city) from. This chemical
represents an inhalation hazard to our personnel, as well as a
hazard with skin exposure. The chemical may also seep onto the
road via the refuse trucks drain holes, and does destroy
asphalt. |
|
Unfortunately refuse collection trucks come equipped with holes
to drain off excessive liquids. This becomes especially
important during rainy weather and at that time, the liquid
isn't particularly nasty. This may become an issue when you or
one of your close neighbors throw out many items that have a
large amount of liquid. You should never come home to find a
pile of spaghetti sauce in your driveway (as the Public Works
Department will clean up large obvious spills), however a foul
smelling liquid is left almost anywhere a refuse collection
truck travels. This goes hand in hand with having refuse
collection, and although we apologize for the inconvenience, we
are unable to solve this problem currently. |
| On a special pickup day, the city
has multiple trucks out, picking up different materials. Our
drivers have been instructed to check all addresses on our
pickup list, regardless of the material listed. This is due to
the fact that sometimes we get a call for a large bed, and it's
a metal bunk bed (has to go with metal) and sometimes it's a
wooden waterbed frame (has to go with construction debris). If
you see a truck stop at your address, and then continue past
without picking up your readily visible items that are curbside,
they are more than likely looking for another type of material.
If it gets to be later in the afternoon, you may wish to call
the City Manager's Office, as our drivers do, very occasionally
make mistakes. |
Anything that we cannot accept,
you cannot throw away. Most of these are obvious things, we will
not accept an engine for example. Some hazardous wastes are not
accepted, those that are accepted will only be accepted when
called in and placed curbside for special pickups. If you are
unsure of the acceptability of a material that you wish to
dispose of, you may call the City Manager's Office at 471-2122
or the Public Works Department at 471-1119.
In addition to the few restrictions on type
of material, there are guidelines on how to
place items at the curb. All debris that is to be picked up, regardless of type (household, yard, or
special)
should be placed at the curb no later than 7:00am the day of scheduled
pickup.
The debris should be containerized (in a box, bag, can, or other form of
container)
and should not exceed 50 pounds per such container. In the case of yard
debris, the
debris may also be stacked neatly or bundled. In addition, yard debris shall
be no
longer than 4-foot lengths, and should not exceed 4yd3/week. |
| This is a possibility. If the
holiday is going to affect your pickup day, we will have a
notice about it here. |
| Although these are separate
issues, citizens are welcome to call the City Manager's Office
at 471-2122 to have either issue resolved. Residents may also
call 471-1119 (Public Works Department) for household wastes.
Recyclables are handled by an outside contractor (Advanced
Disposal Services), and in addition to both the numbers above,
you may also call the Municipal Liason, Mary O'Brien at (904)
616-5322, or Advanced Disposal Services at (904) 783-7000. |
